It is noteworthy that the story of the Berlin murder of a Georgian citizen Zelimkhan Khangoshvili is seeing a new life on the eve of the Normandy Four Summit. It's also worth noting that the new tone is the one of accusations, including targeting the Russian military intelligence.
As reported earlier, the two Russian diplomats in Berlin, who were declared personas non grata, turned out to be operatives of the Russian military intelligence (GRU), which was confirmed by anonymous sources in the German media.
Thus, the case took a very interesting turn, because while earlier these spooks could be expelled over Moscow’s unwillingness to cooperate in the investigation of the Georgian national Zelimkhan Khangoshvili's murder in Berlin, now we can talk about their certain involvement. That is, these "diplomats" could well be supervising the Russian killer.
It is also interesting that the identity of the hitman wasn't established by German investigators or intelligence - it was a joint investigation team from The Insider, Bellingcat, and Der Spiegel. Moreover, the results of most investigations by The Insider are pretty much the same. You don't need a crysrall ball to know in advance that the next probe by The Insider will be devoted to some GRU failure (or it will be an actual leak related to the agency).
So it happened this time. The incompetent elimination of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, performed by Vadim Krasikov, a convicted felon, who's been on a wanted list since 2013 on suspicion of the murder of a Nalchik-based businessman Albert Nazarov and who got busted literally at the crime scene testifies of degradation at the GRU ranks, which offers trump cards to their competitors in the Russian intelligence community.
In fact, the revival of the story of of Zelimkhan Khangoshvilli hit is a definite pass to Angela Merkel so that she shows, in addition to her inherent deep concern and dismay, some real unwaveringness at the Normandy Summit Dec.9. Meanwhile, just yesterday, French President Emmanuel Macron was schooled as a naughty brat by his NATO colleagues for that heresy he had been uttering lately. So he is unlikely to misbehave and resort to provocations anytime soon. And now this cold shower for Frau Chancellor...
And as a cherry on a cake, although it doesn't look like a cherry, comes today's report by Le Monde about a Russian spy base in the French Alps hosting Russian operatives engaged in contract killings and acts of sabotage.
And now, in the aftermath of the shots in Berlin, the sugary taste of novichok in Salisbury, the pungent stench of burning tires in Paris, the fumes of the foiled coup d'etat in Montenegro, the scandalous election meddling in the U.S., and now also the alpine freshness of the Russian GRU, how does this make Kremlin lobbyists in the EU look? Especially on the eve of and during the Normandy Four Summit...
What else can I say... Thanks, GRU! Your degradation is giving Ukraine, which has been opposing the Kremlin’s hybrid aggression for six years already, more and more support in the West.
